Reflections: 2013

Whoa, 2013.
What. A. Year...

When I try to summarize the year, a few general themes immediately come to mind.
The first... VACATIONS!!!

It was an incredible year of traveling for us...
We're so lucky.

We started the new year with a quick family getaway to San Francisco.
It was a GREAT weekend!
Thanks again, John, for planning every little detail. You sure know how to kick off a new year in style!

.
.

Then, I got a pretty BIG surprise for my BIG K. Sutherland PR 1-Year Anniversary...

A vacation to this amazing, beautiful private island in Tahiti, Motu Teta.

.
.
.

All because of this rad girl...

Recently voted by Fox News as the 9th "most remote hotels worldwide", you can learn more about this oh-so-exlusive destination here on Huffington Post. Or, see more about my personal experience (plus a video) here and here.

.
.

This year, we were also lucky enough to RELAX in Graeagle with Mom and Mike.

It was a another beautiful, peaceful week away with people we love so much!

.
.
.

John spent a month in Washington DC for a "RAD" conference, so we made the most of it with...you guessed it...a vacation! Whoop!

.
.
.

And, we spent a week over Christmas in Switzerland...

and a week over NYE in Paris...

Le sigh.

Give me some time to work up blog posts/videos on this vacation. It'll be worth the wait.

......................

Oh then, there was also Austin...
Two visits in 2013, in fact.

All because of these two lovely people who had a BIG year.

Their love literally blows us away.

Our first trip to Austin was to help host an Engagement Party for Mato & Amy.
Watch their boat party video here.

And, that was just a pre-game for THE bachlorette and bachlor parties!

.
.
.

But, of course, the most important of all... THE BIG DAY!

August 17, 2013

"S" Clan.

Such a beautiful day, filled with so much love...
Thank you Mato and Amy for making our year so special too! It was all amazing!!!

.
.

Our second trip to Austin was for the
Austin City Limits music festival...
Which is actually my second big theme of the year- MUSIC!

I can't believe how many awesome concerts and festivals we attended this year!
Totally not planned, but we really caught all of our favorite bands live.

I'd say my favorites included:

Fleetwood Mac
Of Monsters and Men
Vampire Weekend
Black Keys
Phoenix (twice)
Muse
Portugal. the Man
Alt J
Fitz and the Tantrums
The Lumineers
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
(PS- Jill caught Joan Jett's guitar pick!)

Here's me and John at the Weenie Roast in Irvine:

And at Fleetwood Mac in Anaheim...

I died.

......

And, the Lumineers at The Greek in LA.

Once again, they did not disappoint!

Yup, a really bunny showed up in our backyard on Easter morning!

.
.
.

I turned 30 this year!
How cute is this cake John and Audrey made for me?

And, a few very special girls surprised me with thirty poems, each attached to thirty gifts, all to celebrate my BIG 30th.
So, so sweet.

.
.

Despite feeling fulfilled and proud of what I've accomplished, I admit, I still had a minor 30-life-crisis...
And, it looked like BANGS.

Yeah.
Audrey didn't take the change very well...

Thankfully, Cinderella has bangs too, so she accepted my new princess look after a few hours of screaming/crying (both of us) non-stop.

.................................................

K. Sutherland PR continued to grow, challenge, and entertain me in all the right ways this year.

We work really hard, and we know how to play hard too.

The Team:

Here's a few photos from my trip to NYC for a Good Morning America segment:

Atlanta.

From our KSPR Annual Retreat:

As always, we had LOTS and LOTS of Reno fun and accomplishments:

I was also "lucky" enough to enjoy LOTS more TV time:

Our KSPR Christmas Party was #major.
...Beach House & Wine Tasting in Paso Robles...

.
.
.

There's also a BIG new business project that was in the works all year, and is finally about ready to launch in early 2014... You've probably noticed my #speaksoon teases all over the place, but seriously...

SPEAK SOON!

The first taste.

.
.
.

But, I wasn't the only one with major professional accomplishments this year.

My "baby" brother graduated from high school!

And, John accepted a body fellowship position at the Mayo Clinic!

Sorry John, had to.

.
......
..............

While there were many uphills.....
Hiking Laguna Canyon.

There were also various downhills....

.
.
.

We were very sad to lose Grandpa Dan in February.
We've missed him ever since.

.

And, on December 30th we lost our friend and neighbor, Brenna.
She was 34 years old, and is survived by her husband and two babies (ages 1 and 3)...
A horrible car accident took her life. We've been very devastated, completely shaken by the news.

It's tragic, and a really sad reality check.
None of us are promised tomorrow, and it has put so much in perspective.
.
.
.
.
.
In 2014, our house is resolving to simplify.
To hug more. Stress less. Not dwell on negativity, or petty "problems" that really, really just don't matter.

Overall, it's clearly been a wonderful year for our family!
We have so many reasons to love life, each other and you.

Happy 2014, and wishing you all the best this year!

love,
kerry, john and audrey
